Want to be part of the new NHS? Health and Care organisations in Dorset are at the forefront of transforming services to provide excellent, patient-centred care.
Dorset HealthCare recently achieved an Outstanding CQC status and is a dynamic forward-thinking Trust operating throughout Dorset.
Dorset HealthCare plays a pivotal role in the strong partnership of public sector organisations across Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole. Our community and mental health trust has a caring and committed workforce of around 5,500 staff, serving a population of over 700,000 people.
We are looking for proactive, positive, respectful, supportive, reliable and trustworthy people to join us at Dorset HealthCare – we’re the biggest provider of healthcare in Dorset and offer exciting opportunities for people with a range of skills. We want to be better every day – do you?
‘This is an exciting time for us as we continue improving and adapting. I have seen some great innovation, fantastic teamwork and a real willingness to look at how we can do things differently’ – Eugine Yafele, Chief Executive (May 2019)
We are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity for a newly or recently qualified Speech and Language Therapist to join our established community Speech and Language Therapy Team working in West Dorset.
The team is led by a Band 7 Therapist and includes a skill mix of grades including assistants and administrative support working together from the main base at Weymouth Community Hospital. We also have a satellite base at Bridport Community Hospital. There will be in-house dysphagia training available and we are able to offer a wide range of ongoing clinical support to a developing clinician.
There is the potential for this post to offer opportunity to work within the acute SLT team based in Dorset County Hospital as part of a rotational post. This is currently under development.
As a Dorset-wide service the Community Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service has four locality based clinical teams, one covering Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester and Bridport area, one covering North Dorset and one covering Bournemouth and Christchurch and the final one covering Poole and East Dorset. We have responsibility for offering assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults with a wide range of clinical presentations. The majority of our work is in the home setting, however we do also have outpatient clinics at Weymouth and Bridport hospitals and we cover two community inpatient wards.
In addition to the clinical teams the Dorset Community Adult Service also has a Dysphagia Training Team who deliver training to non-SLT staff who are working with people who have swallowing difficulties.
Our ideal person will have had experience of working in a community rehabilitation environment. We are looking for someone who can think on their feet, is keen to learn and works well in a team.
Car driver essential.
Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This will only apply to candidates who are new to the Trust and not internal staff. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service and are able to present a valid DBS certificate will not incur a charge.
We would welcome applications from newly qualified therapists and we provide a very comprehensive and fully supported Preceptorship Programme for newly qualified healthcare professionals.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
