We are looking to recruit either a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, or a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist who wants to develop and lead clinical services for people with severe mental illness aged 16 to 20 years. This age range will represent the first stage in the Trust’s ambition to develop a more comprehensive transition service for young people aged up to 25 years.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to develop a new model of service; a Youth Mental Health Service, which will bridge the traditional barriers faced by young people making the transition between Adolescent and Adult Mental Health Services. There are excellent relationships between Consultants working in Adult, and in Child and Adolescent Services, and a comprehensive and robust Transition policy has recently been agreed and approved.

The post is based in Weymouth and Dorchester, and covers the west of Dorset consisting of three localities – Weymouth & Portland, Dorset Central and Dorset North.

The successful candidate will work closely alongside a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, who works with children and young people up to the age of 16. In West Dorset, there is another Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist based in Blandford. There are opportunities for structured duty and cross cover working arrangements with these medical colleagues, and with others in the wider service across the county.

The successful candidate will be working as part of a wider multidisciplinary clinical team, including a team manager, nurse therapist, behavioural therapist, family therapy, crisis workers, occupational therapist, psychologist and social worker.

There are robust liaison, crisis and duty systems during working hours. CAMHS has developed robust Care Pathway in agreement with the CCG, and including both internal Trust service provision, and external Health and Statutory services, and the third sector.

Employment in this post requires a Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The DBS levies a charge of £44 and the Trust will recover this cost in instalments from your first 3 salary payments. This will only apply to candidates who are new to the Trust and not internal staff. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service and are able to present a valid DBS certificate will not incur a charge.
