Based in beautiful West Dorset we currently have an exciting opportunity to work within our Acute Care Inpatient Team.

Located next to Westhaven Hospital, Weymouth, Linden Unit has 15 beds and provides acute assessment and treatment for people aged 18 and over who are in an acute phase of illness and working towards their recovery.  We are an open unit which has successfully completed implementation of all ten Safewards interventions so are now a “Safewards Ward”.

We are advertising for an Occupational Therapy assistant, to provide therapeutic interventions to support people's recovery. Linden Unit adopts a positive, recovery focused approach and has good links with community resources.

You will have the opportunity to be part of a team that provides holistic care, focusing on people's emotional, social and occupational well-being and will work closely with the Occupational Therapist and Peer Specialist. You will work collaboratively with people on and off the ward to facilitate their engagement in occupations and enhance their quality of life.

You will need to be flexible, motivated, compassionate and have good communication skills. They will receive regular support and supervision, opportunities to develop their skills and learning and to be part of the wider West Dorset Occupational Therapy service.

This role includes a £1,000 Recruitment Premium on commencement of your employment and a further £1,000 Retention Premium on completion of one year’s service and every year thereafter. This is part of a Trust Recruitment incentive package following the announcement earlier this year that the Unit faces closure as a result of the outcome of the recent review of Mental Health Services in Dorset. However this unit will continue to be open for at least two years and alternative employment opportunities in the Trust will be sought for all staff once the Unit closes.

We can also offer you:

  • Dedicated career pathways and great opportunities for continuing professional development
  • You will receive a comprehensive and structured induction programme and training
  • Monthly pay plus enhancements for night, weekend and bank holiday working
  • NHS Pension scheme
  • Health & Wellbeing service
  • Holiday pay of up to 33 days, plus bank holidays pro rata, dependent on service
  • NHS discounts
  • Salary sacrifice scheme including work related learning, childcare vouchers, cars, cycles, home technology equipment and buying and selling of annual leave
  • Not forgetting our unique selling point – our Trust beach huts located along the famous Sandbanks coastline

Employment in this post requires a Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

You will be required to undertake a Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course and it is a condition of your employment that you successfully complete all aspects of this course; if this is not achieved you will not be able to commence working in the post.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on 7th June.
