As part of the recent Health Visiting Transformation within Dorset, the service has been developing new models of working to support the continuous improvement and sustainability of Health Visiting provision. As part of this work Dorset HealthCare has taken the opportunity to develop the current skill mix of the Health Visiting teams through the introduction of a new Band 5 Public Health Staff Nurse role to complement and enhance the delivery of a consistent and standardised health visiting service across Dorset.
The PHSN’s will support the Health Visiting teams to provide an accessible, person centred and effective service for children, young people and families in the community by working in partnership with service users, care providers and other agencies. This role will be centred on the following key activities linked to the Healthy Child Programme with an associated competency framework and training programme;
- Health Promotion
- Child Health Clinics
- 6-8 Week maternal mood assessment
- Breastfeeding Support
- Follow up ED attendances/Accident prevention
- 1 Year Developmental Assessments
- 2 – 21/2 Year Developmental Assessment
- Newborn Hearing Screening
- Record Keeping
We are seeking Registered Nurses with an NMC registration, with an interest and commitment to improving the health outcomes and reducing health inequalities for Children, and Families across Dorset.
We are looking to implement these exciting new roles across Dorset and have opportunities across Bournemouth, Poole and wider Dorset for hours from 22.5 hours – 37.5 hours per week for our initial cohort.
Your training programme will be tailored to reflect your experience and knowledge and you will be fully supported to develop the necessary skills to fulfil the requirements of the post.
You should be able to evidence your continuing professional development and have the ability to work on your own initiative. You also need to have good IT and communication skills. Opportunities will be available for recruitment in all areas of Dorset. This role has an emphasis on community working, therefore it is essential that you are a car driver.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The DBS levies a charge of £44 and the Trust will recover this cost in instalments from your first 3 salary payments. This will only apply to candidates who are new to the Trust and not internal staff.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
