Dorset HealthCare is looking to appoint an enthusiastic full time Band 5 Podiatrist to join our Community Podiatry Team based in West Dorset.  This is an excellent opportunity for a newly or recently qualified podiatrist who is looking to develop their clinical skills whilst living and working in a beautiful part of the country near to the coast.

This is an exciting time to join a friendly small team which is currently developing and reviewing its service to provide a relevant and effective source of foot care expertise for patients in the local area.  The West Dorset team forms part of Dorset HealthCare podiatry service which is the main provider of podiatry services across the county.  In West Dorset, our team provides a range of podiatry services focusing mainly on routine community clinics, addressing the foot needs of a variety of conditions including diabetes, rheumatology and mental health.   The service aims to provide general footcare, basic chairside orthoses solutions and education to patients with a view to resolving foot problems and pain and facilitating and supporting self-care.   There will also be a chance to work in and develop skills in our community based high risk clinics treating ulcerated patients with rotation into the hospital based MDT diabetic foot clinic.  As a very much rural area, the team also provides a home visiting service to housebound patients.

Alongside our community podiatry service Dorset HealthCare provides a community and hospital diabetic foot care services, rheumatology, MSK and biomechanics clinics. A new scheme of development time is being introduced to give clinicians opportunities to shadow and gain experience in these clinics as well as develop particular areas of interest relevant to our scope of service.  As a Community Podiatrist based in the West Dorset Locality Team your work will be focused mainly in the Dorchester and Weymouth areas however occasional travel across the county to cover clinics will be required. It is essential that you are (or due to be) HCPC registered, are able to work flexibly and are a car driver with access to a car for work purposes.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills both with podiatry colleagues, patients and the wider members of the healthcare team with whom we work, e.g. GPs, district nurses, MDTs.    You must be willing to work on your own as well as part of a team and we would be looking for real enthusiasm for working with a predominantly higher risk patient group.  As we are looking to develop our service, we would value people who can put forward new ideas for service improvement and use their initiative with a real ‘can do’ attitude.

We value our staff and believe that investing in them is crucial to ensuring good patient care.   The Trust seeks to provide an excellent range of development opportunities including an in-house programme of CPD, study days, and development opportunities through rotations, regular clinical supervision, team meetings and 1:1s.  Wider Trust benefits include NHS pension scheme, flexible working options, lease car scheme, health and wellbeing support, childcare vouchers, health service discount schemes.  We also offer a relocation package to eligible candidates. As a Trust, Dorset HealthCare encourages and support staff to develop and progress in their careers, and opportunities to undergo external study in a variety of supported ways, such as the College of Podiatry Diabetic Foot Module, Masters or Diploma modules are also encouraged. New graduates or those graduating in 2018 are encouraged to apply.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The DBS levies a charge of £44 and the Trust will recover this cost in instalments from your first 3 salary payments.  This will only apply to candidates who are new to the Trust and not internal staff.  Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service and are able to present a valid DBS certificate will not incur a charge.

If you are interested in working in one of the most beautiful parts of the country we also offer a generous relocation package of up to £5,000 – for more information please contact dhc.careers@nhs.net

Interviews will be held on 20th/21st March 2018.
